every barricade becomes the raft of medusa

I love this because it’s either a pun, or it’s a mug telling you to put sake in it.
Win/win.

Note to future self: learn to handle rejection better. A closed door is an opportunity to find a window. A blocked path is a chance to try the road less ventured. It’s not always an attack on your person. And you know what? Even when it is, screw them. What other people think of me is none of my business. Whatever it is you’re trying to achieve, you’ll get there. A setback just means having to wait longer. And if something is worth having or doing, it’s worth waiting for. Stay focused. The more times you put yourself out there, the more times you’ll be rejected, yes, but the more chance there is you’ll find the right way. Just…don’t get disheartened, okay? You’ll get there.

Anonymous sent: I have had an enlightenment last night. WHAT IF JEHAN WASN'T ACTUALLY EXECUTED HE WAS JUST KNOCKED OUT AND SENT TO PRISON AND THAT GUNSHOT WAS A PLOY SO THAT THE BOYS WILL LOSE FAITH AND SURRENDER

Oh no
Tht would mean Jehan would be guillotined (or executed at least idk I’m not so great on that history)
Possibly after being questioned and maybe tortured for information on other revolutionary cells

Pardon me, but I don’t think he would have! I rifled through my sources, and evidently of 82 insurgents convicted after the June 1832 rebellion, only 7 of them were given death sentences. All of those death sentences were then commuted to deportation - basically meaning you ended up in a state prison fortress - and at least two of those seven were released only 2 years later. So Prouvaire would probably have served a prison term, but almost certainly wouldn’t have been executed. Although I’m not sure whether the thought of him alone in a cell somewhere knowing that he’d survived and the others hadn’t is any better than what really happened :(

That’s even sadder oh goodness

Jehan outliving his friends and falling ever further into his melancholy during his prison term

Good thing though, maybe he’d find Marius again??

Him in disguise at Marius and Cosette’s wedding.

"The insurgents, breathless with anxiety, followed him with their eyes. The barricade was trembling; he was singing … He did not finish. A second bullet from the same marksman cut him short. This time he fell facedown on the pavement and did not stir again. That great little soul had taken flight." — Les Miserables
